20 Words or Less

This long-distance date is perfect for couples who enjoy quick, competitive games and testing how well they can communicate with each other. The “20 Words or Less” challenge is a fast-paced game where you have to get your partner to guess the word using a limited number of clues.

You only have 20 total words to describe several mystery words, which forces you to think carefully, be creative, and communicate efficiently. It often leads to funny mistakes, unexpected guesses, and chaotic moments that make the game even more entertaining.

It’s a fun and energetic way to connect, especially if you’re looking for something different from your usual conversations.

Instructions

Pick a time that works for both of you; use a time zone converter if needed.

Hop on a video call using Zoom, Google Meet, Discord, FaceTime, Microsoft Teams, or Skype.

Decide who will give clues first.

Choose 5–10 words for your partner to guess.

You can only use 20 total words to describe all of them.

Give your clues using one word at a time without saying the actual word.

Your partner guesses as you go.

If your partner does not guess the word right away, keep giving new one-word clues to help them — but remember, every word counts toward your total of 20.

Once you run out of your 20 words, your turn ends.

Switch roles and repeat.
