I’m from Pennsylvania (PA), and Koiya is from Florida (FL). We met on the Taimi dating app while I was working at Disney World during my DCP. We started off as friends, going to the parks, resort hopping, Disney Springs—just all things Disney and Universal. We found a shared love for amusement parks and thrills, and it quickly became our new normal. Needless to say, Disney plays such an important part in our journey.
We’re in the same time zone, but with both of us working and getting ready to start school, making time for each other can be tough. We prioritize virtual dates, movie nights, eating breakfast and dinner together, sending each other surprises, doing arts and crafts, and even journaling and having Sunday recaps about what’s going well and what we can improve on.
This is Koiya’s first long-distance relationship and my longest long-distance relationship. It can be a lot of fun trying new things and seeing what challenges we can come up with to keep the spark alive, but it can also be hard to make time to see one another. Because of that, we try to make everything feel important and special—even the small things.
