We met when I was trying to improve my English because I wanted to develop my skills and hopefully become better at my job. That was when I happened to meet Dani. I noticed that she was from Italy, and even though Italian wasn’t a language I originally planned to learn, I thought, “Why not?”
So, we started getting to know each other as friends. At first, we were just two friends sharing our everyday lives. She would tell me about her day, and I would tell her about mine.
Then, around the same time, we both went through breakups. My ex ended our relationship because she believed that I had cheated on her, while Dani had also just ended her relationship with her ex. We were both hurting from our previous relationships, and somehow, we became the people who stayed beside each other through that difficult time.
At first, I didn’t have romantic feelings for Dani. I genuinely thought we were just good friends. But Dani had already started liking me and stayed in the friend zone for several months before she finally found the courage to tell me how she felt.
I was scared because my previous relationship had left me with a lot of emotional wounds. Trusting someone and opening my heart again felt incredibly difficult. But Dani understood. She never pressured me or demanded anything from me. She simply stayed and patiently showed me that I could trust her.
I’m from Thailand 🇹🇭, and Dani is from Italy 🇮🇹.
We have a six-hour time difference, which can sometimes make things difficult. There are days when I’m already halfway through my workday while she has just woken up, or I’ve just finished work while she’s getting ready to go to bed.
But we’ve learned to make the little moments count. Every morning, we say “Good morning,” and every night, we say “Good night.” We remind each other to eat, drink enough water, and take care of ourselves.
Whenever something interesting happens during our day, we take photos or videos and send them to each other. We also share cute videos and talk about what happened during our day.
We also make plans for our future together. I think that makes the distance easier because I know that when Dani imagines her future, I’m there—and when I imagine mine, she’s there too.
Even though we’re far apart, we still try to spend quality time together through video calls. Some days, we cook together. I don’t really like cooking, but I’ve been trying to learn, so sometimes we cook together even though we’re thousands of kilometers apart. Other days, we play games, watch movies, or simply stay on a video call and talk.
One of the most important traditions in our relationship is that we never let an argument go unresolved overnight. If we argue because we don’t understand each other, we give each other some time to calm down if we need it. Then, we come back and talk about what happened.
We don’t argue to find out who is right or wrong, and we definitely don’t argue because we want to break up. We argue because we want to understand each other better and find a way to solve the problem together.
We also say “I’m sorry” and “Thank you” to each other very often. I think those two phrases are incredibly important in a relationship. We try to apologize when we make mistakes and appreciate each other for the little things we do.
Another tradition that I really love is the flowers Dani sends me every month! I once told her that I really loved flowers, but I had never actually received flowers from someone I loved. I was usually the one giving flowers to other people.
After that, Dani started sending me flowers every month. The first time, she sent me five roses. I asked her if there was a hidden meaning behind the number five, and she told me that the five roses represented how long we had been talking at that point.
I loved that so much because it showed me how much attention she pays to the little details I tell her.
We love doing simple things together, like cooking, playing games, watching movies, and spending time together over video calls. But we’d definitely love to try some other LDR Date ideas if you have any recommendations for us! 💗
