This long-distance date idea is perfect for couples who enjoy board games and learning how their partner thinks. Wavelength is a communication game where players give clues and place ideas on a scale between two opposite concepts. The goal of the game is to understand where an idea belongs on a spectrum and see how closely your thinking aligns with your partner. Each round often leads to interesting conversations and different perspectives.
Instructions
Pick a time that works for both of you; use a time zone converter if needed.
Hop on a video call using Zoom, Google Meet, Discord, FaceTime, Microsoft Teams, or Skype.
Open one of the Wavelength game options:
- Browser version: https://longwave.web.app/
- Multiplayer version (3+ players): https://wavelength.mattsolano.com/dashboard
- Mobile app (iPhone & Android): https://www.wavelength.zone/
Share your screen if needed so both of you can see the game.
Decide who will give the clues (the Clue-Giver) and who will place the guess (the Guesser).
The game will generate a spectrum with two opposite ideas (for example: Hot ↔ Cold).
The Clue-Giver can see where the hidden bullseye is placed on that spectrum, but the Guesser cannot.
The Clue-Giver gives one clue that fits the bullseye’s position on the spectrum, without saying the spectrum words.
For example:
If the spectrum is Hot ↔ Cold and the bullseye is slightly toward the cold side of the center, the Clue-Giver might say “salad,” as it is not the coldest thing in the world but still clearly closer to cold than hot.

The Guesser chooses where they think the clue belongs on the spectrum.
Reveal the bullseye and see how close the guess was.
Switch roles and play another round.

💞 Use only inside jokes or moments from your relationship as clues and see how well you really know each other.
⏱️ Set a short timer for the Clue-Giver to give their clue to make the round more exciting.
