UNO online

This long-distance date idea is perfect for couples who love classic card games, friendly competition, and virtual game nights. UNO is one of the world’s most popular card games, enjoyed by families and friends around the world for decades.

The goal is simple: be the first player to get rid of every card in your hand by matching colors, numbers, or symbols while using action cards to slow your partner down. Reverse the order, skip their turn, make them draw extra cards, and don’t forget to call “UNO!” when you’re down to your last card. With free online multiplayer websites and the official UNO! app, it’s easy to recreate this classic card game during your next long-distance date, no matter how many miles apart you are.

Instructions

Pick a time that works for both of you, use a time zone converter if needed.

Hop on a video call using Zoom, Google Meet, FaceTime, Microsoft Teams, or Skype.

Next, decide how you’d like to play together.

Option 1: Scuffed UNO

Scuffed UNO is a free browser-based version of the classic UNO card game that lets you create private multiplayer matches with your friends or partner. It’s one of the easiest ways to play UNO online together since there’s nothing to download and you can customize many of the game rules.

From the main menu, one person selects “Create Room” to start a new private game. You can customize the game settings and rules before creating the room.

The other person then selects “Join Room” from the menu and enters the room code to join the game.

Once you’re both in the lobby, start the game and enjoy playing UNO together in real time while chatting over your video call.

Option 2: The Official UNO! App

Download the official UNO!™ app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Once you’ve both downloaded the app, create an account, add each other as friends if needed, and invite your partner to a private match. It’s a great option if you prefer playing on your phone or tablet.

Once you’re both in the same game, each player receives a hand of cards. Your goal is to be the first player to get rid of every card in your hand.

On your turn, play a card that matches the color, number, or symbol of the card in the center of the table. If you don’t have a matching card, you’ll need to draw one from the deck.

Use the action cards to your advantage:

  • ⏭️ Skip makes your partner lose their next turn.
  • 🔄 Reverse changes the direction of play. In a two-player game, it acts like another Skip card.
  • ➕2 Draw Two forces your partner to draw two cards and lose their turn.
  • 🌈 Wild lets you choose the next color.
  • ➕4 Wild Draw Four lets you choose the next color while forcing your partner to draw four cards.

When you only have one card left, don’t forget to call “UNO!” or press the UNO! button if your platform has one. If you forget and your partner catches you before your next turn, you’ll receive a penalty.

The first player to get rid of every card wins the round.
