The Viral Poison Game, often called the Poison Candy Challenge, became popular on TikTok and Instagram, where players try to avoid choosing the secretly “poisoned” item from a group. While the original trend usually uses candy or food, this virtual version uses emojis instead, making it perfect for long-distance couples who want a funny, interactive online game to play together from anywhere in the world.
The game is simple but surprisingly suspenseful because every round becomes a mix of bluffing, strategy, mind games and pure luck. It’s also a great virtual date idea for couples with busy schedules or big time zone differences since you can play quick rounds anytime you both have free time.
Instructions
Pick a time that works for both of you; use a time zone converter if needed.
Hop on a video call using Zoom, Google Meet, Discord, FaceTime, Microsoft Teams, or Skype.
Use Zoom’s Whiteboard feature.
Go to the emoji section and place your “candies” on the board. In our example , we used hearts ❤️, but you can use any emojis you want!
If you do not have access to Zoom’s Whiteboard feature or would rather use a ready-made version, we included a picture of the game board that you can use during the date instead.
Spread the emojis across the board so there are multiple options to choose from.
One person closes their eyes or looks away while the other secretly picks their “poison” emoji.
The second player then secretly picks their “poison emoji.”
Take turns selecting emojis from the board.
If your partner selects an emoji that is not your poison, say “safe.”
Keep taking turns and removing safe emojis until someone accidentally picks the other person’s poison.
The first person to pick their partner’s poison loses the round.
Reset the board, choose new poison emojis, and play again!
