This long-distance date is perfect for couples who enjoy quick, strategic games and a bit of friendly competition. The Lying Challenge is a simple guessing game that became popular on TikTok as couples began using it to test how well they can read one another. In the game, each person secretly chooses a random household item. You tell your partner what item you have, but you’re allowed to lie. Your partner’s goal is to figure out whether you’re telling the truth or bluffing, without seeing the item.
What makes the game so fun is how easy it is to accidentally give yourself away. Small things like hesitation, laughing, changing your tone, or over-explaining can reveal whether you are lying!
Instructions
Pick a time that works for both of you; use a time zone converter if needed.
Hop on a video call using Zoom, Google Meet, Discord, FaceTime, Microsoft Teams, or Skype.
Turn off your video, mute yourself, and go pick a random household item without showing it to your partner.
Once you have your chosen item, unmute yourself and turn your video back on
Take turns announcing what item you have—you may tell the truth or lie.
Begin asking each other questions to figure out the real item. Popular prompts include:
- “Shake it.”
- “Drop it.”
- “Tap it on a table.”
- “Slide it across the table”
- “Squeeze it.”
- “Open it.”
- “Eat it”
After a couple of rounds, tell your partner whether you think they’re lying or telling the truth.
Reveal your items on camera and see who guessed correctly.
